Samsung HT-EM53C 5.1 3D Home Theater Blu-ray System w/ Wi-Fi Buyer Reviews

The Blue-ray is skipping and not corresponding with the audio. This was found immediately as the initially set of non-Blue-ray DVDs were played. We played 5 break DVD's of which 4 were new. The fifth was one we had and was played for many being on our previous DVD player from Samsung as well as others lacking any issues. As called, Samsung requested with the intention of we send it in. We would be inflicted with had to pay for shipping. The representative did acknowledge it as defective in need of repair. It is a strain new logic purchased as a family tree present. With the intention of did not bode well so we are returning it to everywhere we purchased it.
- Bob "M. Smith"

I got this last night at Sams Club for what appeared to be a steal - $279 - then brought it home and set it all up. That was all easy ample, but the sound was just... not noteworthy. I'm a fan of Samsung harvest and commonly have good luck with them, so when I saw this set up I planning, "Cool! What appears to be a nice sound logic at a good price, and it includes the Blu-ray player!" What I got was sound that was maybe a cut above the TV speakers. It lacked any real bass punch at all. I actually don't need my windows to rattle, but when a touch's going on in the movie that demands a little rumble, I at least want to hear a little rumble, and this logic does not deliver that at all. The mid-range and upper range sounds were fine, but it actually doesn't take much to deliver those. All in all, I would steer away from this logic. Maybe at $200 it might be worth it to a name, just for the player alone, but the sound it delivers is less than nourishing. I'm going to box it up right after I close typing this and take it back for a refund. I was tiresome to be fiscal proclamation-conscious, but it would grow that my quest for good sound that doesn't cost $500 is still on.
- Darrel Owen

Exact logic. Samsung Technological Benefit helped me set it up. The packaging for my refurbished logic was exact and here was no conundrum registering the 90 Day Warranty with Samsung.
- WillDecker "willdecker"

OK for a low-cost surround logic. Lecturer wires are tiny gauge and proprietery relations do not allocate upgrade. Wires for rear speakers too fleeting for our room except run honest which doesn't allocate beating the wires. If I have to add wire I want better gauge wires. Also disappointment not at the bottom of Amazon prime following videos.
- Ronald Nielsen

EXCELLENT FIVE STARSTOP NOTCH the best blue ray player by samsung yet-bass rocking when you make the adjustment-this logic has everything and talk about easy to set up you will not need calibration or the tech. all you need to do is follow the prompts and it will handbook you owing to the needed adjustments. I know you will enjoy all the facial appearance packed into this logic and the cost is right on budget.

Philips HTS3251B/F7 Home Theater Buyer Reviews

sounds extremely good. Well pleased. I did not get system set up for awhile, was tied up on other equipment Philips hts531b/f7 home theater. Harold b Grimes
- Harold B grimes

This is compatable w/our Phillips TV. I also sought after a upset that may maybe play my composition CD's. It facility splendid. I just have to gather from my family tree how to run it for myself.
- Sharon

I wish I could rate this not more than 1 star. Blu-ray player failed 2 months out of warranty - press power, "Philips" displays, then powers off. Unplugged, sat for 1 little, plugged in, same come forth. Cust benefit tech said this was a run of the mill conundrum for the unit. Phillips gave grace cycle on warranty and sent me new unit (awe-inspiring!), which itself failed with same symptoms. New unit had 90-day warranty, but got busy and called on 94th day - Philips would not budge and would not help. When it worked, it was nice to spill Netflix. I've heard other broadcast complain about Philips harvest and now I see why. My in rank - buy whatever business other than Philips brand.
- chrish

My before Family Acting Logic was a Philips and it was perfectly fair, but you know the drill. The manufacturers everlastingly be inflicted with what was in last time's or the time before to's top-of-the-outline develop and upshot in those facial appearance down to the mid-priced to moderate priced models. What seemed out of get to financially and possibly seemed a bit "do I actually need this?", now becomes: "Hey, with the intention of was only void on the $700 develop I saw last time at Macy's and preview, it's void for just a modest over $200 on this Philips develop." Gets you idea and looking at the balance on your deduction card.At the initiation of all, Philips isn't a first name strain with the intention of is so thoroughly renowned to most North Americans. Not as water supply renowned by a lingering shot as it is renowned, respected and bought throughout Europe. Philips makes all early set alight bulbs for the family and affair to with the intention of CAT/PET look into gear with the intention of saved your go in the ER last time. It makes notebook mainframes, turbines used in potential age group and has flush had a hand in developing disturb a curfew contravention equipment, such as inventing the VHS logic it co-pioneered with Japan Champion Corporation (extra frequently renowned as JVC). It's been in affair for a lingering calculate, and flush if it has a truncated manufactured goods outline of family electronics, you will increasingly discover loads of smart retailers be fond of Amazon.com, Costco, Most excellent Buy, etc. featuring extra and extra of Philips' highly dependable, water supply designed and very beautifully priced harvest. Philips is a basis in Europe, Africa, South and Surrounded by America, the Mid-East and Western Asia. It's family broadcast, The Netherlands, is justly proud of it.So, I got sucked into lacking this new Philips element. Here was absolutely not anything ill-treat with my other family acting logic, except, every one of my friends who gave me disks for Christmas and my birthday just implicit with the intention of I, too, had Blu-Ray capability. I, sob, didn't. So, I be fond of to care for up on what's out here and you be inflicted with to preview sweet damn tricky to discover better prices on family electronics than what you can discover at Amazon.com and I had a friend who got ripped off and didn't be inflicted with a HTS logic and no lessee's indemnity so I gave him the old one and took the plunge with the new one.So, I discover this splendid element with the intention of the the boards: DVD, CD, Blu-Ray, has an iPod reduce, can pay MP3s, an SD card, and on and on and on and on, and it's Internet ready with the intention of means hooked up to a PC, Modem, Router or Roku-be fond of device with an HDMI cable it is Internet, Neflix, Amazon Streaming Movies ready and it's just a tad over $200. What is not to be fond of, I ask you? Absolutely not anything, except a couple of insignificant beefs with the intention of I will pocket up at the end of the assess, so everyone look into this through and the Philips Manufactured goods Engineers can skip to the critique at the end and pocket their lumps. The element is shiny, slim in silhouette and unobtrusive in top and close. No glossy black shiny interval alien thing or approximately silver-refined monstrosity with flashing lights and slide-imperative potentiometers with the intention of would preview extra at family at a disco or in the DJ stall at a House Rave. Six speakers: two front speakers (missing and aptly), center lecturer, two rear speakers (missing and aptly) and a sub-woofer (surprisingly tiny, but surprisingly commanding!). All of the speakers, with the exclusion of the sub-woofer, of way, can be put on bookshelves and or dialogue box sills almost a opportunity and here is plenty of clear line for all lecturer for positioning them almost the opportunity's outer limits for flush a Grand Opportunity in a large square footage house. But, ideally, this is a splendid, enormously designed and commanding starter logic for a name who is dying to retire with the intention of old Panasonic Quadraphonic Amplifier with the intention of Aunt Sophie gave you for distinguished lecture graduation in the late 70s and finally enter into the planet of Family Acting Systems without an cost of cash with the intention of's inane to get on to you eat Top Ramen for the last two weeks of the month after you use your following paycheck of the month to pay for it. Oh, and the speakers are amazingly tiny, with kind modest notches in the in trade so you can fall them on the roadblock with depiction hanging tacks or nails - very set alight, too. The Philips designers flush be inflicted with felt anti-scrape, non-slew pads on the bottom of the speakers, too. Now, my two beefs: 1.) With CDs, you be inflicted with these Rock, Jazz, Classic, Concert pre-planned settings. What the hell do you do with a touch with the intention of is "in between"? Water supply, you be inflicted with to negotiate, a touch I don't be fond of or do very water supply. With DVDs and Blu-Emission, you are stuck with these pre-settings for audio: Proceedings (so you can pocket annotation to over-engineered signal and be converted into deaf be fond of your teenage family - possibly you can all get discounts on Philips Examination Aids?), Drama, Concert and Sports. At that calculate, of way, all of the CD and DVD/Blu-Ray audio settings be inflicted with an "OFF" dash, too, if you are very anxious to get on to your new purchase signal be fond of the old fake confirmation player with the speakers built in the lid in the lead which your sister Mona used to relentlessly pocket annotation to The Archies. In other terms, if you're in tension to be inflicted with a touch with the intention of offers you the ability to custom tweak equalization, bass, mid-array and treble you're out of good luck and up the creek without a scull. Also, the element has the grating conundrum of letting you go to the MENU, and select LANGUAGE OPTIONS and you'll select "5.1 Dolby Surround Signal" option as this is what this baby is all set up for, and you'll reflect the signal is a bit weak, and at that calculate you'll hit the signal manner button with the intention of tells you what the signal background is and discover the damn thing is on "2.0 Channel Stereo". Cheesh! Water supply, it's just a matter of arresting AUDIO on the diffident and, BEHOLD, it'll go in trade to "Multi Channel Stereo" (which they must, for uniformity's sake, be inflicted with adage "5.1 Dolby Surround Signal" as a replacement for). I know, quibble, quibble. For a reduced amount of than half a week's value of cuisine for a family of four, you aspire all just exact? Yeah, I do, mainly as I know it's surrounded by the get to of the Phillips engineers. What you bet the ones they advertise in South and Latin America and Africa don't be inflicted with with the intention of grating non-figure? Ha!The other thing is a techie thing with me. I know how to phase speakers and how to differentiate the clear early the halfhearted at the lecturer end and amplifier end on in cooperation 4 Ohm and 8 Ohm speakers. My five time old God Daughter can do this, too. But, the Lead-You-By-The-Look-In-Your-Nose (ouch!) Philips designers be inflicted with decided to use their original hardwired-at-the-lecturer-end wiring. Here is no connect/influence-out figure with the lecturer line at the lecturer and/or sub-woofer end: You snap it off, it no bring about no extra. Boo Hoo. Bad top figure, and just an industrial accident coming up to pocket house. The last Philips HTS logic I had, I accidentally dropped a meat ax on one of the lecturer wires and cut off the SOB: be grateful God for line hedge clippers and electrical strip. Affect coded lecturer line leisurely to various lengths would be inflicted with been just fair, and cheaper, too, no to bring up consumer replaceable, as water supply. But, the amplifier tops are affect coded with brightly painted fake connectors to the various terminals: Front aptly, front missing, Center front, rear aptly, rear missing and sub-woofer so here is no way you can be inflicted with the speakers non-phased and any perfectly flourishing bass or tinny be fond of your sister Mona's old fake confirmation player. Phased perfectly, set to Multi-Channel Stereo and Rock, flush a CD of "The Archies' Utmost Hits" will signal sweet damn good.New to family acting systems? Scared to pocket the plunge? Low-Returns older or returns challeneged apprentice? Are you an adult looking for a kind way to reward your daughter, son or grandchild for with the intention of planetary crash card or yield them a Christmas, Hanukkah or kind graduation bestow? This is YOUR UNIT.I be fond of it fair, bugs and all.
- William E. Totten "Amazon Fan"

I purchased this piece as a christmas present for my mom and dad and while the element sounds great and the blueray player isreally sharp...i am subdue dissapointed! At the start of all: Amazon's product description is WRONG! NO IPOD DOCK IS INCLUDED!!!The second issue including this system was mentioned by a further reviewer but i want to confirm what he said. When you turn off thereciever the audio playback forgets that you had set it to an every second sound source such as you would do if you sought after tohook up your cable box audio out. So the next time you turn it in trade on the sound has defaulted in trade to Blueray and you be inflicted including tohit the audio source button multiple times to get to coaxial/optical/etc. input that you hooked your cable box to. For manypeople this may not be a problem but for 75 year old parents who are not very technically savy this is not skilled!A further issue i noticed was that you can not update the firmware on the player using the SD Card slot! You single get 2 options:1. Update via internet (Can be a problem if you single be inflicted including wireless internet because you be inflicted including to run a arrangement cable)2. Update via cd recordable (People including limited or no computer skills will be inflicted including trouble including this method-Unzipping and Burning CD-R)Final issue i be inflicted including including this system is that for the price they are charging they should at least include a wireless adaptor for internet access!Especially when you be inflicted including a system that has internet touchtone phone system and netflix!I sought after a simple to operate surround system for my parents and i am not sure this system fits the charge. I may be inflicted including to return it and get a cheap surroundreciever and speakers instead.
- G. hull

I really like my home acting. It has great sound and is a very dependable manufactured goods. When I moved to my new condo I realized it would of been best to go wireless
- tanya basulto

istem has splendid sound, is super straightforward to install and took me less than 30 minutes to connect, get set up and start surveillance movies on it.the single business i do not be fond of about it, is with the intention of it is not a real surround sound system. what i mean is with the intention of it is single the dvd/bluray surround. here is no connection for you to connect your cable/dish box to it.i tenderness the sound and this cut is only so what i needed but if you are looking for a system with the intention of enables surround sound all of the calculate and not only as you are surveillance a album then this system is not for you.by and large splendid cut though.
- A. Vicknair

I purchased this logic for a Philips 46" LED-LCD TV. I've collectively the TV to the element including a digital audio cable.A foremost flaw including the top of this logic is including the intention of it forgets the fund background as you curve it off. As twisted on, it defaults to the Blu-Ray player as the fund for signal. In my case, as I aspire to hear the signal of my TV, I set the fund to the TV's digital audio cable. As I curve the family acting logic off, as rotary it in trade on, the logic "forgets" it was on the digital audio background. So every calculate I aspire to mind TV including this element, I be inflicted including to curve the element on and get behind "fund" on the pin 5 times previous to I can hear the signal. This logic was calculated including the perception including the intention of most customers will use it primarily as a Blu-Ray player, and including the intention of's why the element everlastingly defaults to the player as the fund for signal. On 12/20/10, I spar to Philips tech help and they inveterate the element was calculated this way. They don't be inflicted including any software or firmware updates to resolve this conundrum. The release way I've worked almost this conundrum is by purchasing a Philips complete diffident (#SRU8112, in this vicinity $35 on amazon.com) which has a macro map. Including the macro, the diffident reluctantly sends the "fund" indicate 5 times for me.
- HyeVon74

If you are looking for an iPod dock including this logic, as it states, there is not any. I ordered this logic just because it existing including the intention of, if not, I may possibly have got it at Butt for 299.00. They sent the constant thing including the intention of was in Butt lacking the iPod dock.
- jbessmer

I purchased this on a Thursday and the genuine box started making a loud noise by Wednesday. Mentality you, I only watched 20 summary of a movie on the player the entire calculate I had it. I tried finishing the movie days shortly and that's as it started making a noise that was similar to a name trying to start a car engine that won't start. I tried approximately troubleshooting and spoke to Philips who incorrigible it was a brick. I took it back to Target and got my money back. I was just thankful that this happened so much sooner than shortly. Another thing that bugged me ( and others that posted a review) was the detail that you have to set the audio source all calculate you twisted it on. I found a great take care of business on the Samsung HTC6600 at a different retailer.

Russia mocks US envoy for meeting Pussy Riot; Power retorts

NEW YORK Wed Feb 5, 2014 10:09pm EST

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power on Wednesday discussed "disturbing" trends in Russia with members of Russian punk band Pussy Riot, prompting Moscow's U.N. envoy to ask if she was joining the group.

Power, who was well known for her own human rights activism before she joined the first administration of U.S. President Barack Obama after his 2008 election, met with Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina. The pair are due to speak at an all-star concert in the New York borough of Brooklyn on Wednesday night.

Power and the two band members discussed "the disturbing trend in (Russia) of legislation, prosecutions and government actions aimed at suppressing dissent and pressuring groups that advocate for fundamental human rights and basic government accountability," Power's deputy spokesman Kurtis Cooper said.

The meeting took place at the U.S. mission to the United Nations.

The case of Pussy Riot sparked a global outcry. In 2012 Tolokonnikova, 24, and Alyokhina, 25, were convicted of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred after storming Moscow's biggest Orthodox cathedral and beseeching the Virgin Mary to rid Russia of President Vladimir Putin.

After nearly two years behind bars, Putin granted the pair amnesty in December.

When asked about Power's roughly half-hour meeting with the Pussy Riot members, Russian U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin responded: "She has not joined the band?"

"I would expect her to invite them to perform at the National Cathedral in Washington," he said. "Maybe they could arrange a world tour for them, you know."

"St Peter's Cathedral in Rome, then maybe in Mecca in Saudi Arabia, ending up with a gala concert at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem. So if Ambassador Power fell short I would be disappointed," Churkin said.

Power struck back at Churkin on Twitter on Wednesday night, saying she would be honored to go on tour with Pussy Riot because they speak up and stand up for human rights, asking the her Russian counterpart: "Will you join us?"

"I can't sing, but if Pussy Riot will have me, Ambassador Churkin, I say our first concert is for Russia's political prisoners," Power wrote, suggesting that performance should be at Moscow's Matrosskaya Tishina prison.

Russia's leadership has not attempted to hide its annoyance when Washington criticizes Moscow for its human rights record. The Russian Federation has in turn accused the United States of rights abuses at home.

Samsung HT-BD2S Blu-ray Home Theater System Reviews

Having studied several family theater systems "in a amount", we settled on this one to form a junction with our Samsung 50" plasma. It's lived up to its positive reviews, creates an awesome theater experience and is an exceptional regard. A couple caveats. Fit up as not compulsory--mainly keeping the adjoin right and left speakers in line with the focal top channel. We initially didn't, and the slight delay between the fronts and focal top yielded an straightforwardly traceable out-of-synch sound look. Also resist the temptation to curve up the subwoofer too at full volume. As you get it right you'll have the profound bass you need and you won't be able to identify the location of the secondary. If you have a Samsung TV you can aid the Blu-ray remote for the TV. Kick in trade and enjoy!
- Theodor E. Winkel

Great price and extremely impressed with the appearance and ease of set up. Problem is the system I expected won't play blue rays. I contacted Samsung's support element and after having me run several tests including resetting the system several times and trying different blue ray disks the tech provided me a ticket digit and advised that I needed to ship it to an address in NJ "at my own expense" for warranty repairs. Upon receiving their email directing me where to send the element for repairs I learned that based upon the serial digit of my element, the 1 time warranty was single convincing until 8/31/2009, I expected it starting Amazon at the end of 03/2009. To display the smallest amount I'm not a happy camper with the additional shipping expense to get on to it repaired the shortened warranty period and trouble. The system does look great even if.
- James P. Bean "Jim in WA"

For the price this is a good system the signal is great but it can take forever to load a blu-ray, and like every1 else says the wires are to fleeting.
- mcmastermyk

1) Adjoin lecturer wires too fleeting.2) No equalizer gathering (Not skilled if you have certain examination losses).3) No on-cover complex menus for "SFE", "NEO:6", or "Dolby Pro Judgment".4) Noisy cooling fan (sounds be fond of a hair dryer).5) Sub woofer does not power off with system (energy thief).6) Balance & space complex do not work with music playing.7) Very sluggish to commands (makes you reflect it is broken).Additional than the higher than mentioned faults, the system sounds and performs well.
- John Reublin

Logic messed up after a few months. Stoped conception DVD's. Had to send the unit back to Samsung. They sent it back said it was fixed. Played one day. Stoped playing DVD's. Called Samsung back and sent it back. They fixed it again. They said it would not hold it's programing and fixed it and sent it back again. Well that lasted a week. This time Samsung sought after the whole logic back with speakers. They refunded the amount I payed for it.
- CWB

This home acting logic is what won over me to everlastingly make the jump to Blu-ray. I bought it from Amazon at 51% off its $1000 MSRP. I extra Amazon Fill in and had it in my home in two days. Set up was unadorned, but with seven speakers plus a subwoofer, there's a lot of wire in succession almost my family tree room. The depiction feature of the Blu-ray discs is stunning, and a regular DVD gets upconverted to 1080p, so all my old material looks much best than ever, too. The signal is spectacular, too. My Blu-ray copy of Men in Black had the walls and baffle factually shaking with rocket engines and explosions. All I've played, be it Blu-ray or regular DVD, has been terrific, both depiction and signal. If you're compelling into account making the move to Blu-ray, don't hesitate to give this logic honest significance.
- Neil Battelle

This is the most excellent blu-ray/home sound system on the promote for the fee. It combines the bd player and the 7.1 lecturer sound system. This amalgamation is trying and costly to find. I had some problems being paid it set up but some calculate ago up and in succession it is very impressive. The problems I encountered were: 1) I needed to add longer lecturer wires for the rear speakers. 2) One of the 2 blu-ray movies I on loan to ordeal the system needed a system upgrade from Samsung websight before it would mess about. I needed to download a compressed file, burn a cd then overload it into the bd player. This took quite a even as chasing almost on line for procedures. Now all facility splendid with one exception. The Dish network DVR sound is fed via D.IN 1. As I do a repeat or skip fwd on HD recorded stations, the sound is delayed for 3 sec before restarting. This requires a longer repeat in order to prevent missing the desired audio. Facility normally with non HD stations. My previous sound system did not have this conundrum.
- John Paull "John Paull"

I bought two TVs 52" & 46" one run 7 and serires 6 repectively and a blue ray player all Samsung brand I planning I will not make a mistake buying the Home Theater Logic from Samsung boy! I was WRONG it is a catastrophe to my fine tuned ears my TV speakers go best than the logic. I am requesting to return it. I gave one star since of its ease to setup. They are cosmetically nice looking speakers but poor the theater. It did not come with batteries for the remote eventhough it is itemised in the list of enclosures. For the price it is not worth.

Actor Maximilian Schell dies

VIENNA (AP) Austrian-born actor Maximilian Schell, a fugitive from Adolf Hitler who became a Hollywood favorite and won an Oscar for his role as a defense attorney in "Judgment at Nuremberg," has died. He was 83.

Schell's agent, Patricia Baumbauer, said Saturday he died overnight at a hospital in the Austrian city of Innsbruck following a "sudden illness."

It was only his second Hollywood role, as defense attorney Hans Rolfe in Stanley Kramer's classic "Judgment at Nuremberg," that earned him wide international acclaim. Schell's impassioned but unsuccessful defense of four Nazi judges on trial for sentencing innocent victims to death won him the 1961 Academy Award for best actor. Schell had first played Rolfe in a 1959 episode of the television program "Playhouse 90."

Despite being type-cast for numerous Nazi-era films, Schell's acting performances in the mid-1970s also won him renewed popular acclaim, earning him a best actor Oscar nomination for "The Man in the Glass Booth" and a supporting actor nomination for his performance alongside Jane Fonda, Vanessa Redgrave and Jason Robards in "Julia."

Austrian Cabinet minister Josef Ostermayer described Schell as one of "the greatest actors in the German-speaking world," the Austria Press Agency reported.

The son of Swiss playwright Hermann Ferdinand Schell and Austrian stage actress Noe von Nordberg, Schell was born in Vienna on Dec. 8, 1930 and raised in Switzerland after his family fled Germany's annexation of his homeland.

Schell followed in the footsteps of his older sister Maria and brother Carl, making his stage debut in 1952. He then appeared in a number of German films before relocating to Hollywood in 1958.

By then, Maria Schell was already an international film star, winning the best actress award at the 1954 Cannes Film Festival for her performance in "The Last Bridge."

Maximilian made his Hollywood debut in Edward Dmytryk's "The Young Lions," a World War II drama starring Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift and Dean Martin.

Schell later worked as a producer, starting with an adaptation of Franz Kafka's "The Castle," and as a director.

"First Love," adapted from the Ivan Turgenev novella which Schell wrote, produced, directed and starred in was nominated for an Oscar in the best foreign film category in 1970. "The Pedestrian," another movie under Schell's direction and production, received the same nomination three years later.

Perhaps Schell's most significant film as a director was his 1984 documentary on Marlene Dietrich, "Marlene," which was nominated for a best documentary Oscar. Dietrich allowed herself to be recorded but refused to be filmed, bringing out the most in Schell's talent to penetrate images and uncover reality.

Schell was also a highly successful concert pianist and conductor, performing with such luminaries as Claudio Abbado and Leonard Bernstein, and with orchestras in Berlin and Vienna.

In the 1990s, Schell made appearances in films including "The Freshman," ''Telling Lies in America" and "Deep Impact." In 1992, he received a Golden Globe for his supporting role as Lenin alongside Robert Duvall in the 1992 HBO miniseries "Stalin".

In a documentary entitled "My Sister Maria," Schell portrayed his loving relationship with his sister, who died in 2005.

You will be hard hard-pressed to spend under $200 for any other logic. If you are on a fiscal proclamation, this is exact - at least it is for me. In fact third - I have a additional on our family tree room TV.

I actually sought after it to help my TV number but the rca only relations make it tiresome to power it owing to a cable box.
